REMEMBERING THE VICTIMS OF BOMBING AFTER 75 YEARS

Association "Old Niš", cherishing the traditions and heritage of Nis, under the auspices of Palilula Municipality- City of Nis, held this year at the Old Nis cemetery "Gorica" memorial ceremony for the victims of Nis bombing on April 8 1941. After the ceremony by the priest of Nis Eparchy, attendees were addressed by Prof. Dr. Radan Ilic, Deputy Mayor of Nis, who pointed out that it is our duty to cherish the memories of the fallen victims of the madness of war and destruction. Then the representatives of the "Old Niš" association, a delegation of the City of Nis, Palilula Municipality and descendant of warriors, laid wreaths and flowers at the memorial grave and evoked memories of the bombing of Nis 75 years ago.

During the onslaught of fascist Germany on Serbia, in the first years of the Second World War, only in the April bombing of the civilian population of Nis, about 400 people were killed and more than 500 wounded either in easier or harder way. Miodrag Jovanovic, evoked memories of this event. "It was a festive morning when they appeared over the city of the German" pike "bombers. Bombs in a short time destroyed many buildings and citizens were killed in their homes and on the street. All of them were buried in the Old cemetery Nis, in this one big grave.

According to the Deputy President of the Assembly, Aleksandar Zdrale, Palilula Municipality in great deal helps the arrangement and adaptation of this important "memorial complex" - old cemetery under Gorica. After the work on the Central and Eastern gate, works on the fence have been also completed and work on the West gate of the Old cemetery. A continuation of this complex is next because it is constantly `targeted` by irresponsible individuals and groups. They destroy the memorial, trash is pilled ..The initiative of the constant protection of the "Old cemetery" we addressed to the Assembly of the City of Nis and we asked for the donors to continue the project planning.

On the Protection of the complex last week also spoke president of Palilula Municipality Boban Džunić in the Ministry of Construction and Transportation. After all, it is our civilization attitude towards our fellow citizens and historical heritage of the City of Nis.
